Future of Work for Rural Employers

Rural workplaces are changing—shaped by new expectations around flexibility, fairness, communication, and well-being.

A series of workshops led by the Rural Design Centre Innovation Project, in partnership with NICRE and Stick Theory, explored how these shifts are playing out in rural settings. The sessions focused on organisational culture, mental health, and the future of work, with reflections captured in videos, presentations, and a blog post by Di Gates of Stick Theory.

A State of the Art Review complements the workshops by examining broader trends in remote and hybrid working for rural enterprises.

The module also features a case study of Reheat, a Northumberland-based business evolving its practices to better support staff and customers, shared through a video and blog post by co-founder Neil Harrison.
